Where I'm From (9th grade assignment)

I am from a frigid region,
The heart of a growing city.
I am from kites in the backyard,
Gliding and flowing.
I am from a large backyard tree,
And the ambitious house within,
Which we climbed,
And laughed in.
I am from a backyard fence,
Plain and simple,
But carried many memories,
And friendships made.
I am from candies with foreign names,
Which my mother gave willingly.
I’m from rumors and lies,
And all the grief they caused.
I’m from “I love you,”
And “How was your day?”
I am from the gifts my parents bestowed,
And the privileges they gave me.
I am from all the moves,
And every place,
That gave me character.
Under my dresser,
There is an album,
With a surplus of pictures,
Of faraway places and people.
I am from these times-
That were given to me-
Before I left for my own way.
